Leon Butler

Leon Butler is the owner of Brookside Optical and has over 35 years of experience in every phase of the eye wear industry. From manufacturing to design, Leon has the ability to insure your prescription is met with expertise and will help you explore the many options in frame colors and styles. He will offer new ideas and options most clients have never been exposed to. Leon’s expertise in manufacturing superior lenses and the ability to provide clients with a variety of frames not found anywhere else in Kansas City gives clients the specialized attention usually reserved for celebrities.

Jeff Selvin

Jeff Selvin is Brookside Opticals’ longest tenured optician. He is an ABO certified optician and brings over 30 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of frames. Jeff has owned optical stores in the San Francisco area and was also a manufacturing representative for 13 years. Jeff’s’ experience with a German design team creating frame styles and colors, gives customers the confidence they are receiving expert advice about what will work best on them. He will encourage customers to stretch their idea of wearing normal eye wear into wearing a fashion statement.

Matt Hurst

Matt started working in the optical Industry in 2007 in Wichita, Kansas. He worked for a locally owned optical store that carried your typical main stream eye wear. Matt thought he had a good comprehension of the eye wear business until he started working for Brookside Optical in 2009. Through the teachings and experiences of his fellow coworkers, Matt has gained priceless familiarity with the intricate and inner workings of the finest lenses and frames. Both new and repeat customers love Matts’ energy and enthusiasm. Even though Matt is a fourth generation K-State Wildcat. both Jayhawk and Tiger fans love working with him. On most days his trusted sidekick, Rome, will be in the store with him.

Nick Alvarez

Nick Alvarez recently joined the Brookside Optical team. Nick has 10 years of experience in the optical industry. His knowledge varies from lab work to medical optical testing, to frame styling. Nick also has several eye wear certifications, but he has found his home in the Brookside Optical lab. Nick enjoys knowing that his expertise is helping someone see perfectly.

Joe Alvarez

Joe Alvarez started in the optical industry in 2007. He is an excellent student and an extremely fast learner. Joe has gained exceptional experience in the professional fitting and dispensing of quality eye wear. Clients bond with Joe very quickly and love his energy. He has a great eye for choosing the right frames, colors and lenses that best suit their personal and professional optical needs. He educates customers by offering instructions in eyeglass care and the benefits of premium products. Being a perfectionist, Joe ensures that your glasses fit by doing custom adjustments

Klate Reimer

Klate Reimer has over ten years optical experience. His amazing career started when he broke his eyeglasses. He had a friend working in an unnamed optical chain store and ended up getting a free pair of glasses and a job as doctor’s technician. During his time working for this company he was elevated to the position of optical manager before leaving the company.

His next position was with another major chain optical shop where he started out as an optician and eventually gained the position of store manager. After about four years Klate happened upon another opportunity and moved to yet another chain store. At this store Klate was the store manager and did everything from repairing the antiquated lab equipment to running the pretesting for exams.

Finally after long last, Klate was recruited by Leon Butler to come work for Brookside Optical to run the lab. He has been with the company for over three years.
